The work of Effy Kawira’s is no stranger to Culture Piece Magazine. The writer/director extraordinaire’s debut project, House Party set the tone for all of her work to come. With a quality and voice rarely seen in Minnesota’s creative industry, I always find Kawira’s work to be revolutionary and otherworldly, with the visuals always thought provoking. Effy’s latest visual series, “In Praise Of The Shadow”, is no different! Take a dive into the extraordinary mind of Effy Kawira and be immersed in what is sure to be another monumental film for EOK Productions.

'In Praise Of The Shadow' - A fashion film that revolves around duality, the alter-ego, mental health, and the peaks and pits we experience in life. It emphasizes the true image of who we are, how we present ourselves to the world, and the parts within us that we hide in the shadows.
In this accompanying two part photo series, model/actress Awut Tang represents the Sun and the Shadow. The Sun is representing the small parts of ourselves that we reveal to the world. Although the scene paints a bright and seemingly happy picture, the model/actress is also dealing with issues within.
As the Shadow, Awut Tang reveals to us an alter ego of sorts, with a newfound confidence and sense of self.
The visuals speak for themselves, In Praise Of The Shadow is a complete work of art in every aspect. The attention to detail within every scene is simultaneously effortless and extremely intentional. The growth from Effy Kawira has been outstanding and her eye for what’s next in the industry is always spot on!
