Essjay TheAfrocentricRatchet: Yody

Where the fuck have I been all my life that I haven’t heard the effortless verses of EssJay TheAfrocentricRatchet?! Not gonna lie, I don’t normally listen to an ENTIRE work of art from Minnesota artists especially if I haven’t heard any of their previous music. Something told me to check out this newly released EP of EssJay’s though and y’all! I was more than impressed! Yody is composed of 5 lit ass summer bops that I’m sure will be poppin for years to come!

TheAfrocentric Ratchet is just that! This multifaceted rapper has a sound all her own which feels nearly impossible considering the big pot of artists in the hip hop world. Teaming up with master producer, Kwey, the duo has created something neither Minnesota nor anyone else in the game has quite mastered. Yody stands for “You Out Did Yourself” and that’s exactly what this self proclaimed ratchet rapper did! With nothing but bops and ass shakin music this is the perfect project to get us Minnesotans out of our winter blues.

Although the EP has no features, I could’ve swore that I was in the studio with EssJay by how quickly I found myself dancing and rapping along! A favorite of this project is definitely Golden, where EssJay proclaims how fire her pussy is in her bad bitch persona. The whole EP sounds like it belongs on a soundtrack of HBO’s Insecure!

With only 5 songs, I’m left wanting more and wondering what EssJay TheAfrocentricRatchet has in store for us next. I have a strong feeling that there is so much more to come in the future!
