Oh shiiit y’all! Hot Girl Summer 2.0 is damn near here! Self proclaimed “Hood Mono Lisa” aka Megan Thee Stallion has released a new project after getting the green light that she’s been waiting for! Suga is a 9 track project with features from Kehlani & Gunna along with songs with Timbaland & Pharrell that was just released today!
Megan Thee Stallion has been in the headlines A LOT lately because of the unfortunate drama between her and the label, 1501 Certified Entertainment that she’s signed to and it’s CEO, Carl Crawford. Meg went to Instagram Live a few days ago to let us in about what’s really going on stating that the label was not only not giving her a fair cut of the money that she earns but also not allowing her to release any new music! #FreeTheStallion was trending and before we knew it, a full lawsuit was underway! Before us Hot Girls could get too heated though, our favorite stallion announced that her new project, Suga, was indeed coming out despite all of the legal issues. With a temporary restraining order in effect against her label, the Houston rapper was able to release music without the permission of 1501 Certified Entertainment!
Megan is never one to shy away from theatrics so it’s no surprise that she has introduced us to her new alter ego, Suga! Suga is a lot more open about what she’s going through and her internal struggles. The entire body of work in Suga is very elevated but still keeps that classic Megan sound that brought us to love her in the first place. Although this isn’t the original release date that Megan anticipated, she had to jump on the opportunity given to release her music, even if it meant making her project only 9 songs. Regardless of it being a smaller project, the impact of it is already HUGE with nearly 1 million views on her new video, B.I.T.C.H, that just premiered at midnight and rightfully so! The song AND the accompanying visuals are top notch! With inspiration pulled from 2Pac’s single, Ratha Be Ya Nigga and Booty Collins’ hit, I’d Rather Be With You the song gives me a real 80s-90s hip hop feel with classic Hot Girl hints sprinkled in of course.
This album ignites the inner Hot Girl of everyone and I swear if the sun ain’t shinnin’ extra hard today! It smells like summer and Megan Thee Stallion is here to bring it in the right way. The Hot Girl way!
