The Vibe ft. Destiny Roberts

Yesterday evening marked the second installment of the new local series of intimate shows, The Vibe. This month’s installment, which was housed at the boutique style hotel Moxy Minneapolis Uptown, featured the multifaceted musician, Destiny Roberts! Destiny is no stranger to Culture Piece, having performed in a fashion show of ours late 2017, but this performance was sure to be much more intimate, personal & unplugged. With the release of her latest mixtape, “The Red Tape” from her ROYGBIV project, I knew we were in for a treat!

With an amazing turnout of beautiful brown & Black guests from various generations cozily & comfortably arranged in the neon lit Lobby Lounge, we were welcomed & guided throughout the evening by host Tek. The local rapper and producer extraordinaire smoothly set the vibe and even gave us a couple verses in between breaks.

The beauty in The Vibe is the unplugged and uncensored set that you can expect from each performer. The Melanin Moon Mami donned in a metallic 2 piece fit and matching metallic Filas, performed songs new & old, backed by a live band, DJ & background vocals from Aubriana Jackson. We were able to get insight into what the rapper/singer-songwriter was thinking while writing each song. The audience was even lucky enough to meet a few of Roberts’ siblings, who came on stage sharing stories of the artist and even performing alongside her at times! Another special treat of the night was when the powerhouse of a performer, SoloStar, joined Destiny for a song. One of my favorite things about watching Roberts perform is that she is always sure to share her spotlight with the amazing artists in her life! You can always expect a big pot of performers when Destiny Roberts is the headliner!

I think the biggest surprise of the evening was finding out that Destiny not only raps but has some serious vocals! Like beyond what you’d even imagine! It’s safe to say that this beauty stunned us all in the best of ways all the while showing us why she’s the alien princess of hip hop here in Minneapolis.

I told y’all The Vibe was here to stay! Local musician and event producer, Sole Guy, is slowly but surely making his mark in the Minnesota music scene and we are here for it! Stay tuned to find out details on the 3rd installment of The Vibe which is set to take place in May! Stop being a victim of FOMO and get ya ass out to the next The Vibe!
