Harlem Renaissance

Harlem Renaissance

As many of you fashion enthusiasts know, Fashion Week Mn is upon us and slowly closing out. Culture Piece Magazine has made its second appearance on the FWMN lineup, this time with an evening of historical Black glamour in “Culture Piece Magazine Presents: Harlem Renaissance”! High fashion looks, a jazz band, and the ultimate speakeasy ambiance made for an event that left many in awe.

On Saturday evening Culture Piece Magazine invited the faces of the Mn art & fashion scene to the Le Méridien Chambers Minneapolis library for an intimate fashion presentation. Not to brag, but the venue was pretty spot on! The Le Méridien library was nearly perfect with its dim lighting, relaxed yet sophisticated decor, and chic bar. When guests arrived, (decked out in full Harlem Renaissance attire might I add) they were greeted with the sounds of a live jazz band, put together with the help of McNally Smith College of Music. It was beautiful seeing so many people of color in one room looking gorgeous and damn near magical!

The designers of the evening were amazing! Sumaya Keynan, Rammy Mohamed, and Heimie’s Haberdashery shown their collections inspired by old time Harlem fashion, with a high fashion twist of course! I honestly can't even fully describe the feelings I had when I saw the models walk down the runway! The sparkle and glimmer of the designs bouncing off the flashing lights of everyone's cameras made for a blindingly magical experience. The models exuded glamour and sex appeal all the while slowly strutting across the room. There was also a special element of Hijabi fashion from designer Rammy Mohamed, which was to DIE for! Hair and makeup, led by Culture Piece team members Dre Demry-Sanders and Yanna Jordan, was impeccable!

Following the fashion presentation we had soulful singer, Haelee Honore, bless us with a couple of classic songs from the era including, “At Last”, by Etta James. Did I mention that the entire production team, designers, musicians, and models were people of color? This was honestly my favorite event to produce and I'm so pleased with the response we've been receiving. I always aim to create a safe space for all of our attendees and we did just that.

It's always an amazing time being apart of the Fashion Week Mn lineup, which was co founded by our friends Sarah Edwards and Jahna Peloquin! All of the thanks goes to our generous sponsors: Le Méridien Chambers Minneapolis, Fashion Week Mn, Dentistry by Design, The Hues Company, Softline Brand Goods, Heimie's Haberdashery, and The Beauty Lounge! I couldn't sign off without thanking my team for all their hard work and our loyal supporters who continue to come to the shows and read our articles! Culture Piece Magazine would be nothing without you all!

As to be expected, this is not the end for Culture Piece Magazine and all our of antics! Stay tuned to see what's next for us & thank you for the continued support!
