Culture Piece Magazine is in the Windy City covering the Red Bull Sound Select: 30 Days in Chicago festival throughout the month of November. A different show every day with artists like Migos, Syd, and of course, Young Thug. It's only day 4 of the festivities and Pierre & I are already amazed at the way these Chicagoans party!
Day 1 kicked off with Young Thug’s lit performance at The Metro, a seemingly laid back venue compared to one in Minnesota. As I walked in, I was greeted with sounds of famed Chicago rappers and a blanket of weed smoke- not that I minded of course! I was pleased to see what I believed to be the true fans of Young Thug front and center.
Now to the music: I'm not gonna lie, I know who Young Thug is but I didn't actually know of his music. Usually when I cover a concert with little knowledge of the music it's hard to really get into it, but that definitely wasn't the case here. Something about hits like Wyclef Jean, Digits, and Pick up the Phone made not only the crowd, but myself move! Thugger seemed almost nonchalant as he spit his lyrics, draped in what had to be thousands of dollars worth of diamonds and the cologne I could smell from the pit. Despite his unexpectedly calm demeanor, the audience was wild for Young Thug!
