“…Seems like my only crime is having melanin/Connection to the sun so strong the relationship is lusted for/Causes meant to suffocate, I can’t breathe no more /Settle the score sadly need an abacus to tally/Through all the peaks and valleys, Yo, I /Recognize them sadly/Black soul old enough, inner city/Holdin up, watch me get all my goons/Watch us get soldiered up.”
ATCQ has blessed us with a new album, We got it from Here… Thank you 4 Your Service and with all the unsettling events after the election and let's be honest, this whole fucking year, this album is exactly what we need. I’ve been listening to ATCQ since I was in middle school (thanks to my bro) so after waiting 18 long years they couldn’t have picked a better time, or sound. This will be their final album and with musical guest like, Elton John, Kanye West, Jack White, Consequence, Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, Talib Kweli and Busta Rhymes, they are definitely leaving on a high note. When I first started to listen to the album of course no shuffling!! I kept anticipating Phife’s voice, waiting for it to appear and then it did, with the song Conrad Tokyo, you hear that distinct strong voice, I could breathe again, and alongside Kendrick Lamar, it was perfect. This album, is the album of all albums. These were the guys that made you want to do music, to be a part of music. To know that you can. (Okay, I’m getting corny, but it’s true) Phife, Q-tip, Jarobi and Ali, they are legends, they speak truth to the highest capacity and that’s exactly what they gave us in this new album. We got it from Here, speaks of the realities of injustice, growing away from our addictions but most importantly, standing together and not letting fuck ass people to get in our way. If you haven’t heard it yet, please take the time out to do so, to let your mind get lost in their beats and rhymes.
“Phife Dawg Legend, you can call me Don Juice. I’m the shit right now, what, you need proof?”
